Clean up the lst += string stuff, whereby string being iterable means each char is added as an element of the list. Also, apply the 'join is better than append' rule to other places, where, alas, it doesn't seem to have the same magic effect.

Move the javascript code for click-to-sort columns into its own file. It helps keep the HTML tests from changing when the code changes. Also, don't compare non-HTML files in the tests.

Now the index page will remember its sort options across page loads, which
means you can click on an item, view its report and return without the index
resetting to its default order
